Bloomsburg Falls From Ranks of the Unbeaten in Field Hockey

Box Score

INDIANA, Pa.--The Bloomsburg University field hockey team saw its 28-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday with a 5-1 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-rival Indiana University (IUP).

The loss was the first for the Huskies (4-1, 2-1 PSAC), since the 2005 NCAA championship game against UMass-Lowell.

Bloomsburg, which had been averaging nearly 10 goals per game through the first four contests, got on the board 18 minutes into the game when Brieann Wolfe (Perkasie/Pennridge) scored off a Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) assist.

The Crimson Hawks (6-0, 3-0 PSAC) tied the score at 1-1 when Barbara Heemelaar scored unassisted at the 28-minute mark.

Three minutes later, IUP went in front off a penalty corner when Liza Martini scored off an assist from Brittany Owens on a corner play.

In the second half, the Owens to Martini combination connected again off another penalty corner to make it 3-1 in favor of the home team.

IUP put the game out of reach with two more goals in the final seven minutes of play with Martini scoring both goals off assists from Owens on penalty corners.

The Huskies will host Philadelphia University on Thursday at 4 p.m.
